Company History

Veterinary Care, Health Care, Pet Dentistry

Dr. Gene Bailey, the owner of Animal Hospital of Peak Plaza, joined the Triangle community in 1996. A graduate of the University of Florida, Dr. Bailey graduated both undergraduate and veterinary school with high honors.

After a year in general practice in Vermont, he moved to Ft. Lauderdale in 1984 to concentrate on practicing intensive small animal medicine and surgery, with his focus on dogs and cats. In 1989, he opened Rock Creek Animal Hospital in Cooper City, Florida, a suburb of Ft. Lauderdale, and practiced until leaving in 1996. His hospital developed a reputation for high quality personal service and care that continues to this day.

Upon moving to the Triangle, Dr. Bailey joined Timberlyne Animal Clinic in Chapel Hill, where he did much of the surgery and handled many of the complicated internal medicine and oncology cases. He left Timberlyne in the fall of 1998 and became a staff veterinarian in emergency and critical care at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital of the Carolinas, a 24-hour emergency critical care and specialty hospital in Cary. Dr. Bailey’s desire to foster close long-term relationships and re-enter general practice led to the opening of Animal Hospital of Peak Plaza in February 2000.

Opthalmology, Parasite Control

In 1994, Dr. Bailey undertook the process of becoming Board Certified in Canine and Feline practice through the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. This is a long and difficult process involving additional study, authoring of scientific articles, and the taking of a rigorous examination in order to become a Board Certified Specialist. He is one of 15 veterinarians in North Carolina and one of only 5 in Wake County with this general practice specialty designation. The American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP), sanctioned by the American Veterinary Medical Association, established the specialty of veterinary practice to set standards for advanced professionalism in veterinary practice. The ABVP promotes and sets high standards in the art and science of veterinary practice. An award of Diplomate status to a veterinarian recognizes that the individual has demonstrated that they can fill a unique and special role in the delivery of state-of-the-art veterinary care.
